ARCHIVE: 1970s French Couture Psychedelic Leather Skirt

£0.00 Sold out
This is an exceptional, circa 1970, leather skirt and reminds us of the futuristic designs of several haute couture designers and chiefly Pierre Cardin; although this is an unlabelled piece. The flared a-line leather skirt is made of fine grained and supple leather and it has this extraordinary modernist design whereby the panels of the skirt have over-laying semi-circular flaps and each panel is joined to the other with a series of stitchwork that complements the colour of the patchwork. So for instance, the purple is attached to the pink with purple stitching. Each of the patches is also outlined in black for maximum contrast. The colours are predominantly bright neon hues in pink, orange, red, and yellow and there are three shades of purple. The skirt has a black knitted waistband and a series of hook and eyes whilst the original metal zip is retained to the centre rear for access.

In order for the leather circles to fall in the way that the designer intended, the skirt is best suited for around a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. It's quite a heavy piece as you would expect with all the overlapping leather panels and condition is absolutely extraordinary for something of its age. The leather is soft, the colours are good and there's no staining; just gentle signs of wear commensurate with age noted. Despite no labels, this piece was purchased in France from the estate of a wealthy woman who loved haute couture. This is without question the greatest piece of leather design we have ever encountered in our 25 years of business.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?

Yes but please do let us know the size of your party in advance.

Where can I get alterations?
