Laura Ashley was the most famous name on the British High Street from the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. The textile founded company made some fantastic and fabulous quality clothing taking inspiration from bygone eras. This dress is styled as an A-Line tunic or smock dress with a repeat floral print in muted tones of blues, yellows, ochres and white. It has a gathered sleeve and an elongated cuff which is straight cut with three mother of pearl effect buttons. The dress easily slips on over the head; however, it has a front fastening button stand down to the waist for access and finishes in a high collar neckline. The dress falls to around mid-calf length and has a gentle flare. It has the most desirable of the early Ashley labels ‘Made in Wales’ which dates from the early 1970s and is labelled a vintage size UK 14. This will fit the majority of sizes all the way up to a UK 12, US 8 in modern sizing.
