Most likely made either side of WW2 (late 1930s to early 1950s) this very large brooch has small marcasites (iron pyrites) that have been set into the detail of the orchid design with hand painted enamel work. It is an incredibly three-dimensional piece that features protruding petals and the stamen of the orchid flower.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe piece appears to be made from a base metal or even silver which has then been rhodium plated with a fully working clasp to the rear. There is also an additional safety pin and chain to ensure that the brooch does not detach from the wearer. In beautiful vintage condition with no faults of any note.
