The original label inside this dress reveals it was stocked at the prestigious Neiman Marcus flagship luxury department store in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1907, it stocked garments by elite designers, catering to the tastes of fashionable wealthy Texans. In 1938 they created the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award for outstanding contribution to fashion. Recipients included Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Grace Kelly. In the absence of the original designer label on this dress, their identity is unknown, but it could well have been made by a very highly regarded couturier. There are now 42 Neiman Marcus stores across the USA.
