1930s Satin Black and Lacework Dress with Zig-Zag Hem

£795.00
This 1930s evening dress combines inky black satin with lace patterned with vines, ribbons and sunflowers. The satin body is cut to a straight column silhouette, with a zigzag upper edge across the bust and a matching zigzag finish where it meets the wide lace panel at the hem. A second lace panel forms the top of the dress, echoing the hem below. The neckline is cut to a soft V, and both the neckline and sleeveless armholes are trimmed with black satin. The dress is unlined and fastens at the left side of the waist with four tonal black snap closures.

Evening dresses from this period are particularly collectable. These 1930s lace designs also look spectacular for modern red carpets and event dressing, worn on their own or over contemporary underwear or a bodysuit.

This is a very well made, unlabelled dress in very good vintage condition. We have expertly repaired some breaks in the lace in the Circa in-house atelier which are not at all noticeable when worn. The fabric has no stretch, so please check our measurements carefully. It was a great fit on our model, who is a UK 6, US 2 and 5'7" with some room to spare and we think it will fit up to a UK 8 or US 4.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
