1950s Pale Gold and Blue Brocade Ball Gown

This British couture made jacquard ball gown dates to the mid 1950s and has been finished with hand-sewn details. The shimmering champagne hued brocade is detailed with gold ferns and blue-grey flowers. The wide straps and bust are intricately pleated, forming a pretty sweetheart neckline. Pleating falls from the rear waistband and the skirt is lined with tulle creating structure and volume to the skirt that contrasts with the nipped-in waist. A concealed zip and two hook-and-eye closures secure the rear.

In very good vintage condition overall - we can be overly fussy with any minor flaws noted! After dry cleaning she presents very well; on close inspection there is the odd pale mark here and there that is impossible to see when worn as the sheen of the brocade is unaffected. A small alteration at the zip could easily be reversed but its been done well. We also saw a small fingernail-size scuff near the bottom hem which was only noticed when the dress was turned inside-out. Unlabelled but a very well made dress and a good fit for a UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
