2006 Valentino Haute Couture Ruffle White and Silver Gown

£30,000.00

One of the most exceptional, one of a kind, evening dresses we have ever had at Circa Vintage. Couture crafted in the Valentino atelier in Rome and designed by Valentino Garavani himself in 2006. The Vogue review of the collection mentioned that “the handiwork was extraordinary” and in particular that the “evening dresses stood as a master class in the flawless refinement that has been his trademark since he opened for business in Rome in 1959.”

The House's fantastical approach to design is embodied by this elaborately embellished gown. Tailored from white silk mesh, the top of the gown is cut with a V-neckline to reveal the décolletage. The fabric is detailed all-over with ruffled white ribbon work, forming swirling patterns which follow the curves of the body. These wavy strips of sheer ribbon are broken up by row-upon-row of hand-sewn metallic silver sequins, attached with silver metallic thread. The back of the dress is beautifully constructed; plumes of gauzy silk-chiffon falls down the back, forming floor-length wings that flutter out behind the wearer. The cap-sleeves are sheer and detailed with ribbon work and silver sequins. Inside, the dress is boned around the waist and bust in silk mesh tulle and lined with white silk satin from the waist down. It fastens with a tonal zip at the rear and a hook-and-eye clasp. This gown would make a truly memorable wedding dress and an equivalent, heavily embellished haute couture example would cost in excess of $170,000 today.

This dress is in superb vintage condition with no issues of any kind. Due to it being couture made, it has no size or composition label so please check the below measurements carefully as the fabric does not have any stretch. The label reads “Valentino Couture” in glittering gold thread on cream silk. This fit like a glove on our model who is a UK 8-10 or UK 4-6 and 5' 4" or 163 cm. The original design on A4 card will be supplied with this dress.

Please note, due to the value of this dress, we will not post overseas and it needs to be collected by hand in our London showroom. Please email or call to book an appointment to view.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
