This desirable 1930s/late1940s black wool crepe dress is beautifully made and in exceptional vintage condition with no issues of any note. The dress is a simple shift cut with wide, elbow length sleeves, V-neckline and beaded cross over bodice. The fabric is neatly gathered below the yolk below each shoulder at the front of the dress, and below the seam of the yolk across the shoulder blades on the reverse. The front of the bodice is skilfully beaded with a mixture of gold and blue topaz-coloured bugle and rocaille beads in a design which resembles comets in space. There is a large beaded button feature to secure the fabric at the centre front of the bodice. The long skirt is fitted over the hip and falls in soft folds to mid-calf length with a single seam at the centre reverse. There is a concealed zip fastening at the side and it is unlabelled although manufactured rather than homemade. We estimate the best fit to be a modern size UK 12 or US 8. The photos look a bit washed out in the full length shots so please refer to the close ups to get an idea of how fresh this looks in real life.
