1930s Floral Georgette Full Length Tea Dress

This is an exquisite example of 1930s fashion made from a wonderful floral cotton organza or stiffer georgette fabric. The colourful floral print showcases a mix of hydrangeas and old roses in lilacs, greens and pinks set against a midnight blue/black background. The dress has a small square neckline which has been gathered with vertical pleats falling to a wide waistband. The dress is flared and panelled to ankle length. The small puff sleeves have small, original shoulder pads. The dress fastens to the side with poppers and additionally there is a keyhole insert at the back of the neck with a popper. The dress has been skilfully handmade and finished by a dressmaker in our opinion and there are no labels present.

It is in extraordinary condition for something of its age. The colour is still very fresh and bright, the fabric retains its strength and it shows little signs of wear. The only thing of note is that there are a few scattered, age related marks that only really show through on a handful of the white flowers; they blend in exceptionally well with the print and would never be seen when worn. This dress would look fantastic with a pale or pastel coloured slip but equally great with modern nude undergarments due to the sheerness of the fabric. It would make a perfect alternative wedding dress or bridesmaids dress. It will fit up to UK size 10-12, US 6-8.
