1940s Oriental Chinoiserie Novelty Print Satin Jacket
This original late 1940s satin novelty print jacket is a delightful rendition of chinoiserie style. There is everything you can think of here that represents oriental art, flora and fauna and architecture including; pagoda buildings, bamboo stems, the tree of life, workers in traditional Chinese costume and elegant ladies strolling with parasols. The print is made up of bright colours; greens, blues, yellows and pinks against a black background. The material itself is a wonderful quality satin that appears to be flock backed. The jacket is not lined nor is it labelled; however, it's certainly been made by someone skilled as couture techniques have been used.
The jacket has an oversized collar that surrounds the back of the neck and a wide tapering lapel which falls in a deep V towards the front. It is double breasted and fastens with two green plastic buttons and the three-quarter length sleeves have upturned cuffs. It is a good size too. We estimate this would fit up to a UK 16 or US 12. It could also quite easily be tailored to fit smaller sizes.
