1960s White Cotton Broderie Anglaise Dress and Jacket Set
The broderie anglaise dress has been a classic of British summertime fashion since the Victorian era. Characterised by embroidered details and peekaboo eyelets on crisp cotton cloth, at close inspection it often depicted intricate botanical motifs. This late 1950s to early 1960s dress and jacket set is detailed all over with clover embroidery with cut-out leaves. As the dress is unlined, these eyelets add a hint of -sheerness to the overall look. The dress has medium thickness shoulder straps and is secured with a hidden zip at the rear. A moulded balconette bust sits above a wide waistband from which the full skirt falls to below knee. This dress is similar to the famous Rappi dress worn by Marilyn Monroe for a photoshoot with her then husband Arthur Miller, and Brigitte Bardot often sported these feminine style dresses on the French Riviera as they suited her much admired hourglass figure. T
he matching and accompanying jacket finishes at the waist, accentuating the cinched-in silhouette of the dress underneath. It has wide lapels, three-quarter length sleeves, button cuffs and a single, playful apple-shaped button closure at the front. This vintage two-piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Suggested best fit for UK 8-10, US 4-6 or smaller. An unlabelled but well made piece.
