1980s Yves Saint Laurent Gold Scrolling Metal Belt

This Yves Saint Laurent hammered gold metal belt was the stand out accessory from the spring / summer 1989/1990 catwalk and we have selected several of the runway pictures to show just how many ensembles the design was paired with. The belt is entirely handmade of lightweight base metal which has been 24ct gold plated. Featuring a scrolling design, the look is almost classical Greek and it discreetly fastens with a hook closure at the front. Embossed to the underside in an oval cartouche: Yves Saint Laurent, Rive Gauche, Made in France.

It is without question a Robert Goossens designed piece who had worked extensively with Gabrielle Chanel since the 1950s until her passing in 1974. Goossens became one of Saint Laurent's chief collaborators on jewellery and accessory design on both his couture collections and ready to wear lines. Suitable for up to a 30 inch or 77cm waist. In perfect vintage condition with no plate loss or issues - it looks as good as the day it was made.
