1996 Runway Katharine Hamnett Iridescent Paillette Beaded Dress
This runway documented all-over embellished midi dress was designed by iconic British brand Katharine Hamnett for her Spring 1996 collection. English fashion designer Katharine E. Hamnett founded her namesake label in 1979 and was a founding design member of the British Fashion Council when it began in 1984. Taking its lead from disco dresses of the 1970s, this charismatic dress is smothered in iridescent paillette sequins hanging from rows of sheer round beads which sway as the wearer moves. The thin fabric straps are embellished with coordinating tiny iridescent beads. The fabric is a lightweight pale champagne-hued silk and is double-layered to combat the slight sheer finish. The back of this dress is secured with an elongated zip and hidden hook-and-eye clasp.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. We have secured a few loose sequins and beads and any loses are extremely minimal. It is 100% Silk and labelled a size XS but please double-check our measurements below. The fabric has no stretch. We believe that this dress would best fit a size UK 8, US 4 and smaller sizes.
