1940s Haute Couture Madame Grès Black Silk Jersey Dress
This is a silk jersey dress by French haute couture fashion house Madame Grès from the 1940s. Typical of the designer's style, it is draped and heavily pleated throughout with a Greco-Roman influence. Entirely pleated and sewn by hand this dress would have taken over 100 hours to create despite being made from only one or two pieces of fabric. The fastening is down the centre front and is hidden amongst the pleats. In very good condition with one small repair under the left arm.
