1990s Runway Yves Saint Laurent Leather Skirt

Extraordinary vintage Yves Saint Laurent leather darted pencil skirt with lavish moulded plastic embellishment. This is the exact runway version from the fashion house's renowned Spring/Summer 1990 collection held during Paris Fashion Week in October 1989. This well documented piece featured in virtually every magazine publication in editorials worldwide and has been in a private collection, unworn, for 30 years. The magnificent embellished panel has an assortment of hand-sewn 3-D shapes of textured, smooth and faceted cuts to resemble oversized jewels. Icicle, diamond and teardrop shaped crystals hang from beaded loops in an inverted triangle to line up with the apex of the front kick pleat. Beautifully lined in black satin with side slip pockets and fastens to side with the original zip and a button on the waistband.

Labelled a French 38 but this runs small and is closer to a UK size 6 or US 2. In the most fabulous vintage condition; the leather is extremely supple, the beadwork is completely intact and without fault. If we're being very, very picky there is just the slightest little fingernail sized circular imprint on the leather near the bottom of the skirt off to the side. We couldn't photograph it and we only detected it in bright sunlight, otherwise this piece looks unworn.
