1950s Green Tweed Wool Coat with Ropework Design

This is a fabulous apple coloured wool tweed coat that has wide deco era shoulders and a long thin lapel which finishes just above the nipped in waistline. Three fabric covered buttons are used to fasten at the waistline. The most striking feature though is the ornamental patch pockets in a rope work design. These have been attached very lightly and made to look like pocket flaps; however, they are purely for decoration and could even be removed if desired. With three quarter sleeves and a turned up cuff, the coat is unlined although there is a satin band along the bottom to hold the princess line shaping.

It's not labelled but of superb manufactured quality and in excellent condition with no issues. When I first looked at this coat I believed it to be 1940s. It can absolutely pass for this era but it is most probably 1950s or even early 1960s. The seams are overlocked so this is not a British made coat as these sewing machines were used by UK manufacturers much later on so my guess is that's its American made. A classic design that would look great over modern attire or a tea dress at the Goodwood Revival. Best fit for up to a UK size 10 or US 6.
