1960s Brunot Soeurs French Couture Red Watteau Train Dress

Exceptional 1960s French couture red midi dress by Parisian couturiers Brunot Soeurs. The sisters designed elegant formal and evening wear for their wealthy patrons and in their heyday had ateliers in both Paris and Cannes in the late 1950s through to the early 1970s.

Couture made from a highly textured, lipstick red fabric with all-over tonal embroidered detailing. From the front, it hugs the curves of the body. With a straight-cut neckline, the straps are made from the same fabric and christened with a bow where they meet the shoulder blades of the dress. The back is attention grabbing; the generously cut fabric is pleated at the bottom of each strap, forming a swinging Watteau Train silhouette that flares out and swirls around the wearer. The dress is unlined and fastens at the back with a hidden tonal zip off-set on the left seam and hook-and-eye clasp. There are sweat-guards under the arms which can be removed if desired.

This piece is in truly excellent vintage condition with no issues and looks barely worn. It has no composition or size label so please double-check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We estimate a good fit for around a UK 10 or US 6 with a slimmer hip.
