1990s Cotton Pop Art Print Thierry Mugler Dress

This is the epitome of 1990s high fashion from leading French fashion designer Thierry Mugler. This is a blue label couture piece and would have featured on the runway; it is essentially very high-end ready to wear. The era was particularly strong for bodycon pieces and cut-out designs and this desirable piece is no exception. The dress has a shirt style collar, generous kimono style sleeves and an empire waist-band which ties under the bust. The stomach is cut away with the skirt crossing at the waist in a wrap around style and fastening with D-rings towards the front of the dress. The colours on this piece are designed to clash in an abstract Pop Art print - orange, yellow, blue and green. The waistband is differing in width and has most structure at the back to give a blouson effect at the rear.

This piece is in good vintage condition with gentle signs of wear. On close inspection we noted a small amount of colour bleed. Some of the black has seeped into neighbouring colours though this is not noticeable when worn. The fabric composition label has been cut out but it feels like a rayon cotton blend. The size is a vintage French 42 which equates in old sizing to a UK 12 to 14 or US 8-10. In modern sizing this would better suit a size down so UK 10 - 12 or US 6-8.
