1950s Christian Dior Brown Crystal Necklace and Earrings set
Documented 1950s Christian Dior necklace featuring an assortment of glass crystals in smoky quartz and yellow topaz hues. All stones are claw set into a rhodium plated silver base metal. This piece is a classic princess shape and length and designed for more formal attire. It sits just below the collar bone. There are several chain links ending in a single teardrop crystal for adjustment at the back and it fastens with the signature ‘S’ clasp’. Signed ‘Christian Dior’ in the signature oval cartouche to the reverse. The dazzling formation is an impressive and early piece, designed and approved when Monsieur Dior himself was the head designer of the illustrious fashion house.
As a long-term collector of early Christian Dior jewellery, I own this necklace in three other colourways: blue, multicoloured pastel and aquamarine. This latter colourway is documented in Henkel & Grosse Pforzheim by Vivienne Becker and features on page 171. The necklace can be precisely dated to 1958 and of course was made by the very famous Henkel and Grosse factory in Germany. Since 1955 they have had a long association with Christian Dior.
In perfect vintage condition and worthy of museum acquisition or one for the serious collector of fine costume jewellery. These pieces are increasingly scarce and difficult to source. This has been in my private collection for over 15 years. Measures approx 40cm at the longest length and approx. 5cm deep at the widest point. I also have the matching earrings available separately. If interested please inquire.
