1960s Gene Shelly Flower Wool Sequin and Bejewelled Cardigan

Gene Shelly was famous during the 1960s for her high-glamour garments adorned with elaborate beadwork. Today her spangled pieces have become very collectable. This 1960s cardigan jacket is smothered in vibrant, iridescent sequins and beads. A recognisably Shelly design, it is hand-decorated with flowers in shimmering emerald green, sugary pink and palest yellow, finished with petals formed from butterscotch yellow beads and a tiny central pearl. The beadwork sits on a stretch-wool and angora mix cloth and the piece is lined with ivory faux-silk. Hidden hook-and-eye clasps secure the front. The label reads “Gene Shelly’s Boutique Internationale California” and “Hand decorated in Hong Kong”, an area renowned for its craftsmanship during this era. This cardigan has been extremely well preserved and is in excellent vintage condition; the beading is particularly pristine for a piece of its age. best suited for up to a UK 14 or US 10.
