1990s Christian Lacroix Black Wool Jersey And Net Gown With Velvet Inserts

This 1990s black wool jersey and sheer net dress with velvet inserts is by flamboyant designer Christian Lacroix. This is the exact same dress modelled by Shalom Harlow at the Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1992-1993 fashion show during Paris Fashion Week in 1992. This desirable catalogued piece is from the collection of a Parisian socialite and would have been made to order.

The fine knit and super soft lana wool jersey follows the curve of the figure with a straight cut skirt finishing below the knee. The upper bodice both front and back is comprised of sheer net fabric interspersed with velvet inserts that are fashioned into an asymmetrical abstract design which graduates onto the lower bodice. The turtle neckline is also net and is embroidered with velveteen thread and fastens at the reverse with a series of round buttons at the nape. The long sleeves are adorned with candlewick velvet tassels on each shoulder, reminiscent of military trim. The dress is designed to slip easily over the head and so there is no zip fastening. It is unlined. This striking piece is perfect for colder weather and will accommodate a range of sizes due to the nature of the fabric. We recommend a US size 6-8, UK size 10-12.
