ARCHIVE - 1950s Norman Young Orange Ombré Chiffon Dress

£0.00 Sold out

This is a very fine example of late 1950s ready to wear evening wear by British designer Norman Young who made high end occasion wear for department stores and specialist boutiques during the 1940s - 1960s. Made from a man-made chiffon, it is dyed to an ombré finish which travels from hues of amber, through marigold, to tangerine. It is a high volume affair, with a boned, bustier top adorned with ruched layers of chiffon and tiny spaghetti straps. The bust is lined with orange satin. The skirt is voluminous and full, lined with a layer of orange tulle and a bottom layer of orange satin. The dress fastens at the rear with a hidden orange zip and hook-and-eye clasp.

The condition is absolutely superb for a dress of its age and there are no faults of any note. Evening dresses from this era are increasingly difficult to source in wearable sizes and there is something very contemporary-looking about it . The label reads “Norman Young London”. There are no size or composition labels but we believe this is a best fit for a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 with plenty of room in the hip.
