ARCHIVE - 1950s Pale Blue Jacquard Halter Neck Ballgown

£0.00 Sold out

1950s blue jacquard full length evening dress. Beautifully made with good technique and classic construction details in a fine, high quality fabric which catches the light. It has an elaborately built corseted bodice with gentle pleating over the bust and a panelled construction. The straps forms a halter-neck which secures at the back of the neck with three hook-and-eye fastenings. The skirt is cut to a full, princess style and lined with two layers of white muslin. The stand-out detail of this mesmerising gown is how the skirt pleating joins the bustier top; horizontally pleated pieces of coordinating fabric sit atop the join, looking almost like roses from a distance. The dress fastens at the back with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasp.

Condition-wise, this is in excellent vintage condition and has undergone a through cleaning process. There are a few small marks on the muslin lining of the skirt where the blue dye of the dress has leaked onto it. These are of no consequence to the integrity of the dress and of course, cannot be seen when worn. No labels remain; however, this is a quality British made retailer or atelier piece and the colours are very fresh and bright. Best fit for a UK size 8-10 or US 4-6 with plenty of room in the hip.
