ARCHIVE - 1970s Louis Feraud Haute Couture Orange Silk Dress
Attributed to French fashion house Louis Féraud, Norwegian fashion designer Per Spook joined the atelier in the early 1960s and went on to become Louis Féraud’s artistic director. He designed the brand’s lauded haute couture collections until 1977. Known for his cerebral tailoring and subtly whimsical detailing, this vibrant midi dress is crafted from tangerine silk printed with berries and geometric shapes in emerald green and navy. With a wide scoop neckline and pin-tucking at the shoulders, the gathered cuffs combine to form billowing balloon sleeves - a common detail of Feraud’s 1970s’ designs. Tonal buttons secure the front, hidden by a placket printed with playful, spotted scallop shapes and navy stripes. Domed tangerine buttons secure cuffs printed with coordinating patterns.
This lively dress is a fun piece for a summer event and is in excellent vintage condition with no issues. The dress appears to have been unaltered and looks as good as the day it was made. From the collection of a chic, Parisian socialite who had an extensive haute couture wardrobe. Unlined, it is a good fit for sizes UK 10-12 or US 6-8. Our model is a size 6-8 and 5 ft 4 / 163 cm, this dress was very roomy on her.
