1960s Royal Milliner Simone Mirman Straw Bobble Hat

£260.00

This is a really fun Simone Mirman straw bobble hat dating from the 1960s. The straw is in a bubble-gum pink, offset with quirky knotting throughout as well as a ruffle trim pom pom affixed to the top of the crown. This hat could be worn to the side or the back of the head. A standout piece of millinery for a race day look or wedding guest. The interior is lined in net and bears the original designer label - Simone Mirman. We love the design elements of the knots and pom pom as they set this apart from most pillbox styles of the era. This is more of a loose pillbox so therefore less formal and more fun!

The condition of this hat is excellent with no signs of wear.

One of Britain's best-known Royal milliners, French born Simone Mirman began her illustrious career designing couture hats for Elsa Schiaparelli in her London boutique in 1937. When this closed at the onset of the Second World War, Simone branched out on her own and produced hats initially from her attic boutique in Paddington but later moved to Belgravia. Her designs are extolled for their sophistication and elegance. Extensively she is designed hats for the most senior members of the British Royal Family including Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. Hollywood clientele included the starlet, Vivien Leigh. She partnered with the leading designers of the day to produce couture collections for Norman Hartnell, Hardy Amis, John Cavanagh and Christian Dior London and her designs are held by museums and collections worldwide.

F.A.Q.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?
