ARCHIVE - 1930s Gold Beaded Liquid Satin Evening Gown

£0.00 Sold out
A very eye catching original Art Deco beaded and sequinned dress in extraordinary condition for its age. The exquisite angled 'bow tie' design is repeated all over the dress and the rich embellishment complementary against the warm gold coloured satin. It is your archetypal 1930s bias cut panel dress with an inverted contour-cut waistline and complex pattern cutting to ensure fluidity of movement. The dress fastens to the side with the original hook and eye fastenings supplemented by later poppers. The dress appears to have been hand finished with the inside seams showing couture finishes. There are no labels on the gown but it oozes quality and it is a generous size for something of this era. There are lots of opportunities to tailor this dress along the side seams, freeing up additional beads. We estimate that this dress can be worn by up to UK 14 or US 10. This dress is designed to be partied in or better still, it would be the perfect alternative bridal dress.

MEASUREMENTS:
BUST - 41.2 in. (104.6 cm)
WAIST - 35.4 in. (89.9 cm)
HIP - 44 in. (111.8 cm)
LENGTH - 60 in. (152.4 cm)
SHOULDERS - 11.2 in. (28.4 cm)

Condition: On very close inspection there are the odd minor and very small insignificant blemishes in the gold satin fabric. Inevitable abrasions to the fabric can be seen around the bottom along with some minor pinholes but all in all, absolutely nothing that would detract from an increasingly difficult era to come by. Whilst it is very difficult to locate individual missing sequins we have noted one or two missing over the entire dress. It must be noted that as one would expect, there are losses of the bugle beads on the high wear area of the straps. These can easily be replaced and there is an additional half an inch of beads below the line of the top of dress which could be used to plug the gaps. As the straps have almost certainly been altered in their lifetime we have left this to the new owner as individual strap length varies person to person.

F.A.Q.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?
