1980s Guy Laroche Blue and White Striped Silk Chiffon Dress

£300.00

Made in France, this playful summer dress was designed in the 1980s by French couturier Guy Laroche for his superbly made ready-to-wear range. Tailored from silk chiffon with a narrow blue and white stripe, it has a wide boat-neckline which adds to the nautical feel. Never one to shy away from a flamboyant detail, Laroche has adorned this dress with layer upon layer of ruffle trim in coordinating striped cloth across the neckline, short-sleeves and bottom hem. This gown pulls over the head and has no fastenings. It is lined with white silk-chiffon.

This dress is in good to very good vintage condition with the following to note: small underarm halos and a handful of horizontal pulls on the front of the dress together with a tiny repaired hole. You have to look closely for these with the dress in hand as they are all faint and they cannot be seen when worn. Labelled a French size 40 but it runs a bit a bit smaller at a UK 8-10 or US 4-6; please double-check our measurements below. The composition is 100% Silk with no stretch.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
