1990s Alfred Angelo Off White Raw Silk Dress with Tulle Bodice

£675.00

Alfred Angelo was a Florida-based designer of bridal gowns founded in the 1930s. This vintage wedding dress was created in the late 1980s to early 1990s and is tailored from lustrous shot-silk and elaborately embellished lace. The silk skirt is fitted and falls to the ankle in a column style. The waistband is ruched and delicately positioned around the waist. Elbow length sleeves are tailored from tulle which has been decorated with appliqué lace, ribbon work, sequins and delicate teardrop shaped pearls. The rounded neckline at the front is trimmed with shot-silk and gives way to a low V-shaped back which closes with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye. There is a large bow that sits pert like butterfly wings and two tails fall from underneath the bow to the back of the knees. The dress is lined in cream satin and features a padded bust.

The dress is in very good vintage condition and is dry-cleaned, ready to wear. Not a condition issue per say; however, the nature of this silk means that the texture is uneven with visible thicker threads and natural imperfections in the weave which look like pulls. The fabrics used are 100% Silk with embellishments of 100% Acetate. It retains the ILWGU manufacturing label dating the dress from the period 1974 to 1995. There are no size labels so please check the below measurements as the fabric has no stretch. Our model is a UK 8-10, US 4-6, and 5'9". This dress fit her perfectly.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
