1970s Documented Paulette Buraud Pink and Gold Silk Paisley Dress
This high-glamour maxi-gown is attributed to French Couturier Paulette Buraud and is from the summer 1970 pret-a-porter collection. A near identical dress was photographed for Jours de France magazine, June 2 1970 by F. Scheibe seen here. This fabric has also been used by Chanel and Oscar de la Renta for collections from the same period but given the striking similarities with the documented piece, we are going with Buraud.
The fabric is stunning and couture quality; glistening gold-threaded paisley forms are embroidered atop chiffon printed with a psychedelic swirl of fuchsia, purple, lime-green and azure-blue. The cloth is semi-sheer and, as such, the dress is lined with a full-length candy pink slip in soft viscose with delicate spaghetti straps constructed from the outer paisley cloth. This gown is cut to a graceful, sweeping maxi silhouette with a rounded neckline and playful bell-sleeves that gather at the cuffs. The waistband is deliberately wide and the skirt is full and finished with a ruffled flounce, creating a laid-back, loose fit for the wearer.
This vivacious dress is in excellent vintage condition with no issues at all. The dress is unlabelled and there is no size or composition label so please check our measurements closely. The fabric does not have any stretch to it. Our model is a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 and 5ft 11in (180cm) and this was a good fit on her.
