ARCHIVE: 2000s Runway Worn Valentino Red Silk Taffeta Evening Dress

£0.00 Sold out
This documented Valentino dress is from the 07/08 autumn/winter ready to wear collection. 2007 was a landmark celebration for the Italian fashion house as it marked the eponymous designer's 45th year as creative director. The dress is a glorious silk taffeta affair and was designed to turn heads; dresses in the famous "Valentino Red" were always reserved for the finale of any runway event and are amongst the most covetable from past vintage collections.

The striking design has an asymmetric integrated sash that is gathered on the left hip and swathed across to the right, held in place by a keeper loop. The skirt is noticeably flared which is achieved by a double-sided skirt that forms part of an elaborate side train arrangement. The sash continues around the back, in an almost bustle type design that wraps and hugs the figure. The sweetheart neckline has a diamond shaped bust so that the design is taunt and waist-less, resulting in a streamlined, elongated profile. The dress is longer at the back and with a low-cut line; double crossover spaghetti straps complete the look.

The shoulder cape is completely separate from the dress and can be arranged in a number of ways to suit the wearer or worn without. The fabric has a wonderful sheen to the silk that catches the light so not as deep a colour as the usual Valentino red. Labelled an American size 8 which equates to a UK 12.
This is fairly true to size but would also fit a size smaller. Superb vintage condition with no issues of any note and probably worn just once.
