2000 Runway Documented Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Distressed Shirt
This rare coated-silk shirt was designed as part of Vivienne Westwood’s 2000 show “Summertime”. A jacket and trouser suit in the same print walked as the final look of the show (an ensemble that Circa also has available for sale). The last Vivienne Westwood collection of the 20th century was marked by a bacchanalian celebration. Rife with symbolism representing Bacchus, the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility, signs of revelry abounded throughout the runway show. Floral prints and damp-hued fabrics were sabotaged with grass stains and red wine spillage.
This shirt is an iconic piece of Vivienne Westwood trophy vintage and would be a great addition to the archive of any collector of this label. Made in Italy, it is tailored from coated silk with a stiff, waterproof effect and a canvas-like texture. The print is taken from an Elizabethan wallpaper design. Rendered in a deep aubergine purple, it shows winding, interlaced vines and fantastical florals. Faded burgundy stains smatter the pale ecru background of the cloth, as though the wearer has spilled glass-upon-glass of red wine whilst dancing.
This semi-sheer silk shirt is cut to an extra-long length and a relaxed fit. It has wide single lapels and a lowered scoop-style neckline. It has elongated cuffs and closes down the front with gold buttons engraved with Vivienne Westwood’s instantly-recognisable orb logo. All of the stitching is in pale pink cotton and the shirt is unlined.
In excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. The composition is 100% silk and the shirt is labelled a size UK 14 but vintage Westwood clothing runs small by today's standards. The fabric has no stretch. Our model is a UK 6, US 2 and 5ft 9in. (183 cm). We also have the jacket and trousers ensemble available for sale (as seen on the runway). Please enquire if you would like to purchase the three-piece set.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
