2005 Christian Dior Purple Waterfall Double-Breasted Jacket with Velvet Trim
This 2005 Fall collection Christian Dior purple coat was designed by John Galliano during his lauded tenure as Creative Director. Pristinely tailored from thick, dark purple wool which is stiff enough to hold its shape, it has a double-breasted cut which fastens with ten large black plastic buttons engraved with the Dior brand name. This jacket has a wide collar which can be unbuttoned to fall in a waterfall style down the front. There is a storm shield at both the front and back of the jacket. It is detailed with six faux pockets - two flap pockets at the rear, two at the front and two welt pockets at the chest. The collar and front hem are detailed with a luxurious trim of buttery soft purple velvet with a delicately frayed tulle edge. The elegant cuffs are split and are fastened with two small purple plastic buttons, again detailed with the Dior logo. This jacket is lined throughout with a purple silk-blend satin woven with the Dior brand name in a blown-up script.
This jacket style was a fixture in the collection with the design being featured in several Looks, each a slight variation on a theme including fabrics used and differences in length. In excellent vintage condition with no faults of any note and looks barely worn. It is labelled a UK 8 or US 4 but Dior sizing runs small. It is 50% Wool, 50% Acrylic and the lining is 80% Viscose, 20% Silk. The tulle and trim are both 100% Silk. The fabric has no stretch. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 31" (80cm), Waist 25" (64cm), Hips: 34" (87cm) and 5' 4" (164cm) and she's a size UK 6, US 2.
