2008 Chanel Silver Fantasy Tweed Double Breasted Dress Suit
This Chanel metallic silver threaded tweed suit was designed for the spring 2008 collection by Karl Lagerfeld and a very similar design walked the runway. Crafted from fantasy tweed which has become a signature look for the Maison. A background of pale grey wool is interwoven with thin silver metallic threads, chunky taupe and lavender wool, fluffy navy wool, subtle stripes of burgundy wool, and twisted brown and beige braids. The jacket is double-breasted. It has wide lapels and the fluffy fringed hems that are a trademark detail of the house's fabric work. The front is adorned with six detailed buttons; matte silver-tone and engraved with a handshake motif, alongside the double-C logo and brand name. The cuffs are frayed and the splits are fastened with three coordinating buttons in a smaller size. There are two small in-seam pockets at the waist.
The dress is tailored to straight shift-style with two slanted patch pockets at the waist. The neckline is squared off and the capped-sleeves have frayed hems that mirror that of the jacket. The bottom hem of the dress is also frayed. It fastens at the back of the neck with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp. Both the dress and jacket are lined with pale silver-grey silk woven with camellias, the house logo, the location of Chanel’s first store on “rue Cambon”, and the brand name. This cloth is sheer and sits atop a second grey silk lining.
This ensemble is in very good vintage condition with no issues to the tweed fabric. We noted some faint tan markings to the silk lining of the dress only around the neckline. These are completely hidden when the dress is worn as they are on the inside. They will fade more with each dry cleaning. Made in France, it is labelled a size 38, UK 10 or US 6 but sizes vary between brands so please check our below measurements carefully. The outer fabric is 35% Polyester, 20% Acrylic, 19% Cotton, 8% Viscose, 6% Acetate, 5% Elastane, 5% Polyamide, 2% Metalised Polyester. The lining is 86% Silk, 14% Elastane.
