CEIL CHAPMAN

Ceil Chapman was a renowned American fashion designer who worked in New York City in the 1940s to the 1960s.  Famous for creating glamorous cocktail dresses, she made pieces for celebrities and actresses including Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor but also designed clothing for the general public.  Chapman was a master at dress construction and was particularly interested in the draping and layering of fabric to highlight the female form.
