2011 Oscar De La Renta Runway Sequinned Maxi Gown with Pink Ribbon Belt

£8,000.00

In the review for Oscar De La Renta’s Pre-Fall 2011 show, Vogue described the dresses in the collection as “so grand in their proportions, so elaborate in their bullion and threadwork embroideries, so spectacular they might not look out of place at a royal occasion”. This dress was worn by supermodel Gisele Bundchen to the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2011 and walked the runway as look 45/60. Tailored to an hourglass silhouette with a loose, flowing skirt, it has a low bust and delicate spaghetti straps. The back is lowered and skin-flashing and the front is cut to a wrap-around style but sewn in place. The gown is tailored from matte pure silk in pale pink. The top layer of sheer black tulle covers this pink silk entirely. It is detailed with the most exquisite beadwork: circular sequins, paillettes and bugle beads in burnished silver come together to form abstract shapes across the tulle; tiny spherical silver beads are scattered, joined with black embroidery to form unknown constellations. The skirt is lined with three layers of soft, pale-pink silk. The dress fastens at the back with a hidden back zip and hook-and-eye. In a dramatic flourish typical of De La Renta, the waist is christened with a removable, wide grosgrain ribbon bow in fuchsia.

This archival gown is a show-stopping addition to any event wardrobe and is in excellent vintage condition with no issues. It is labelled as 100% Silk with the tulle 100% Nylon. The size is labelled as a US 6, which equates to a UK 10. Please check our measurements below to ensure fit.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
