ARCHIVE: 1930s Deep Orange Lame Dress

£0.00 Sold out
We don't see many of these sweeping 1930s floor length lame dresses anymore, especially in such wonderful vintage condition and in a deep orange colourway. The dress design is very typical of the era with wide shoulder seams plunging into a V neckline. The dress has an inverted empire line bust which is segregated from the skirt portion of the dress with several fine rows of smocking. The look culminates with an attached and beautiful rose applique in matching lame fabric. The dress panels fall in a wonderful sweeping A line style to the floor. The lame appears to have a woven floral print repeat pattern that is more apparent in the gauze yarn which is to the reverse of the material. It retains its original belt loops and the fabric belt which is really quite extraordinary and fastens to the rear with the three original fabric buttons and loops.

Overall this piece is in superb vintage condition for its age - there are no faults of any note with the dress. The lame is structurally very sound and virtually without blemish. It's in extremely clean and fine condition and is very wearable. There are some very minor and virtually imperceptible areas of discoloration notably around the straps on the underarm where the gold element of the lame is not as bright as other areas. Having said that, we have sold many lame pieces over the years and this gentle age appropriate wear is insignificant for a dress approaching 100 years old. The construction is very probably British couture but the label is no longer present. The dress will fit up to a UK size 10-12, US size 6-8 and is worthy of the serious collector or those wishing to own the best of the best to wear to events or parties.

F.A.Q.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.
