PRODUCT DETAILS
This enchanting 1930s deep purple velvet evening gown is in superb condition and exudes the glamour of the era. The rich velvet fabric is a deep aubergine shade and is skilfully cut on the bias to flatter an hourglass figure, drawing in snugly at the waist and easily over the curve of the hips. The panels at the front and reverse of the gown taper to a point just below the knees, whereby the skirt flares out into a dramatic floor sweeping fishtail hem. The neckline is a gentle V shape gathered at the centre of the bust into sunburst pleats, while the reverse has a squared neckline to reveal the upper mid back. The key design feature of this exquisite piece are the stylish sleeves, which are rushed at the seams the length of the bodice like a batwing, and open up at the elbow to reveal the arm as if they were a cape. The insides of the sleeves are lined in a decadent metallic silk lame embossed with an abstract floral design. There is no fastening present however the cut of the fabric provides adequate stretch for the gown to be drawn over the head and bust. This spectacular piece would best suit a US size 4, UK size 8. However, it is worthy of note that while the bust has less flexibility, the waist and hips are incredibly accommodating due to the nature of the bias cut and could work a dress size up if desired.
