This charming 1940s navy blue novelty print dress is a beautiful example of the style and elegance of the era and has some lovely design features. The dress is comprised of navy rayon fabric with a pretty design depicting letters and cards encircled in bouquets of tulips in soft red, yellow, green and white. There is a square shaped cowl neckline which hangs from the shoulders in a sailor-style and short, loose fitting 1/4 length sleeves. The front of the dress features a half peplum of horizontal folded pleats over the navel to create texture in the surface design and balance the neckline with the hips. The straight cut skirt finishes just below the knee and is unlined. The nature of the cut allows for the dress to be slipped over the head and then is therefore no zip fastening. This is a wonderfully accommodating cut to flatter a curvaceous hourglass figure, however it could easily be drawn in at the waist with a belt if desired. A charming and versatile piece in excellent vintage condition, would best suit a US size 6-8, UK size 10-12.
