This rare and beautiful 1970s Yves Saint Laurent cotton peasant skirt in multicolour stripes is from the iconic A/W Peasant collection in 1976 and is in impeccable vintage condition. The skirt is comprised of two tiers of cotton fabric printed with irregular multicolour stripes in pink, lilac, ochre, russet, jade green and marine blue. The upper tier of the skirt the stripes present vertically and are juxtaposed with horizontal stripes on the lower tier. The fabric meets just above the knee, where it is embellished with a pretty upward facing frill and a plaited turquoise trim to conceal the seam. The skirt is gathered below a tidy waistband with a zip fastening over the left hip secured with a hook fastening at the top. There are deep concealed pocket details on each hip, and small loops sewn into the waistband to secure a matching fabric sash which can be tied at the front or to the side as desired. This much coveted piece is delightfully romantic and feminine and would be quite a find for the discerning collector. Would best suit a US size 2, UK 6 due to the small waist size but could be altered by a professional seamstress.
