This 1978 purple cotton Sultana kaftan is by Adini, from the Holiday Collection is the most sought after manufacturer of these iconic dresses and is a rare find in exceptional vintage condition. The dress is comprised of hand block printed Indian gauze cotton infused with diamond criss cross silver metallic tread that shimmers in the light. The intricate floral design depicts daisies and peonies in indigo, mauve and lilac and has a beautifully feminine, bohemian aesthetic. The dress features romantic angel-wing sleeves and a high necked Nehru collar above a run of 7 x buttons in matching fabric that can be undone to create a deep plunge as desired. The fabric is bias cut with a voluminous hem sweep from the bust, which allows the dress to accommodate a range of sizes and silhouettes and to be slipped easily over the head. The dress is slightly sheer in the light due to the delicate nature of the fabric and may require a slip. A stunningly beautiful piece and the best example of a Sultana dress we have ever seen. Would suit a range of sizes from a US size 4-12, UK 8-16.
