1990s Jacques Azagury Purple Taffeta Victorian Inspired Dress

£1,895.00
This incredible Victorian inspired evening gown by British couture designer, Jacques Azagury, is an absolute show stopping piece designed to turn heads. Circa early 1990s and of lavish and complex construction, it is inspired by a 1870s riding habit and composed of a quilted double breasted closure with lapel and dolman sleeves. Clinched at the waist, the bottom half of the dress is created in a ballgown fashion with an asymmetrical hem at the front. Three large fabric flowers can be found on the lower right hip of the dress. On the inside, black tulle is added to keep the skirt voluminous. Made in a sumptuous dark plum taffeta silk, the dress has a slight sheen in the light and is a best fit for around a UK size 10 or US 6. Immaculate vintage condition with no issues.

Jacques Azagury is a Moroccan born Fashion Designer most notably known for dressing Princess Diana. Jacques first met Princess Diana in 1987 and held a very special relationship with the Princess and carried on dressing her until her death in 1997. He has dressed some of the most glamorous women in the world including Helen Mirren, Kelly Brook, Helen McCrory, Elizabeth McGovern, Sheridan Smith and Amanda Holden, to name but a few.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
