ARCHIVE - 2010s Alaia Black and Gold Embroidered Princess Coat

£0.00 Sold out
This fabulous early 2010s Alaia coat is cut in a classic princess shape, which creates a flattering, feminine silhouette. The fabric is comprised of a thick black garbardine cotton blend with a fine floral embroidered eyelet cut out design allover. The fabric lining which shows through is like a gold mirrored lame and creates a subtle sparkle to the overall garment. The bodice features a wide lapel collar and a double breasted front fastening, finished with eight fabric covered buttons. The coat is nipped in at the waist and flows out into a pleated skirt section, which adds volume and movement. Its structured feel is incredibly reminiscent of Alaia's signature style, which focused on emphasising the form of the body through sleek lines and curvature. The lining underside is quite different to the mirrored gold side which presents through the eyelet design of the coat. This side has a soft silky feel and is more of a burnished gold colour.

The coat retailed for close to £3500 and is in as new condition. Labelled a French 42, Alaia sizing comes up small and this is a good fit for around a UK 12 or US 8. Would make a great addition to an all season wardrobe and particularly as an evening coat for a little extra glamour.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
