PRODUCT DETAILS
This lovely 1950s Alfred Shaheen cotton sundress in aquamarine features some wonderful construction details and is an excellent example of this flamboyant fabric designer at his best. Renowned for his timeless halter neck sundresses made exclusively in Honolulu Hawaii, Shaheen sourced, designed and manufactured all of the unique textiles used in his garments. The evocative contrast of aquamarine, cobalt blue, navy and gold in this piece are beautifully combined in what is a truly exquisite print. Deceptively floral looking at a distance, the print is in fact oceanic and depicts angel fish swimming in clusters over a coral print background, capturing the spirit of the stunning natural beauty of the island as intended. The classic silhouette would well suit an hourglass figure. Shirring on the bodice ensures a comfortable fit and defined waistline showcasing the full circle mid calf length skirt. The skirt is gathered at the front on either side of the hip and the fabric is skillfully gathered in a fan shape over the bust, with additional petal shaped pieces stitched into the bodice on each breast. The gentle sweetheart neckline is complemented beautifully by the halter neck strap. There is a central zip fastening at the reverse. In very good vintage condition with bright intensity of colour there is a small area of fading surrounding a yellow mark to the side of the dress. It does get lost in the folds and in our opinion does not detract from the asthetic. Would best suit US size 2-4, UK size 6-8.
