1950s Christian Dior Mitchel Maer Turquoise Blue Necklace

1950s necklace by Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior and fully signed to the reverse in an oval cartouche. This is one of the more well known designs and essential for any collectors of jewellery from this iconic design house. It is photographed in Millers “Costume Jewelry” by Steve Miners (2007 edition). The faux sapphire, aquamarine and turquoise stones combination is a style that's more associated with the romanticism of 18th century France and was reimagined by Dior in many of his haute couture collections of the 1950s. All stones are claw set into a rhodium plated silver base metal. This piece is a classic princess shape and length and designed for more formal attire. It sits just below the collar bone, ending in a single teardrop crystal for adjustment at the back and it fastens with a hook and safety chain spring link.

In excellent vintage condition with no loose or apparent replacement stones. It measures 43 cm long when fastened, 3.5 cm at the widest point in the centre front and them tapers to 0.5 cm. An impressive and early piece, designed and approved when Monsieur Dior himself was the head designer of the illustrious fashion house and dating from between 1952 - 1956.

In perfect vintage condition and worthy of museum acquisition or one for the serious collector of fine costume jewellery. These pieces are increasingly scarce and difficult to source, as long term collectors and sellers of rare and haute couture costume jewellery, we have only offered this design once before in over 15 years of selling.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?
