This haute couture Doeuillet 1920s silk beaded flapper dress is a rare find. Of black silk charmeuse with immaculate surface detail and heavily embroidered by the House of Lesage. The oriental style flora motif is hand sewn and combines tiny pewter coloured rocaille beads and meticulous needlework in dusk pink, sage green, petrol blue, rust red and ochre. The simple cut is sleeveless, with a soft round neckline, and the fabric is lightly pinched into delicate soft pleats just above the hip on either side. The front of the skirt is secured by neat popper fastenings at the left of the waist, while the overlay on the reverse is gathered slightly at the waistline to give subtle form to the linear flapper style. The sumptuous outer layer eclipses a slip of soft silk crepe. There are no discernible flaws on this rare piece save for a gentle fading on the front facing embroidery and very minor bead losses. Can be worn with care by US size 4 - 6, UK 8 - 10.
