PRODUCT DETAILS
This enchanting early 1950s black lace cocktail dress was retailed for historic luxury London department store Marshal and Snelgrove, founded in 1837 to eventually merge with Debenhams in 1919. It is of beautiful quality and construction, comprised of a sleek black taffeta slip lining with a full floral lace overlay. The slip has a sweetheart neckline with boning in the bodice to support the bust and an interior grosgrain ribbon belt to draw in the waist which secures with a hook and eye. The lace overlay is cleverly arranged over the bust to emulate a cross over V neckline, and gathered atop of each shoulder. The full circle skirt falls to the ankle in soft folds beneath the tidy waistline and has 3 s underskirts in soft net, taffeta and finally, soft linen. The long sleeves are entirely lace and therefore sheer and add to the feminine aesthetic of the piece. The reverse of the dress has a deep V neckline and a concealed zip fastening at the centre. In beautiful vintage condition, this dress has a classic New Look style and would fit up to US size 8, UK size 12.
