ARCHIVE - Harry B Popper 1960s Peach Maxi Dress with Cape and Jewelled Belt

£0.00 Sold out

This stylish 1960s peach toned maxi dress with matching belt and cape feature by Harry B Popper is chic, elegant and showcases some magnificent tailoring. A popular upmarket ready-to-wear house in 1960s London, Harry B. Popper sold to high end stores such as Harrods and was a favourite of the Queen and Princess Alexandra. This lovely dress has a simple silhouette and soft fluid lines, with subtle tailoring below the bust to draw in the waist, and a soft curve over the hip falling into a long floor sweeping skirt. The dress is essentially a sleeveless shift cut with a modest round neckline, but notably features a feminine caplet that is skilfully incorporated into the front of the bodice to fall gently over the upper arms. The cape separates from the bodice at the reverse, and fastens with a central button stand hosting 19 x buttons with loop fastenings all in matching fabric from the waist to the nape of the neck. The bodice below the cape fastens with a central zip fastening at the centre reverse. There are small windows at either side of the waist at the front of the dress, through which a matching fabric covered belt is threaded to draw in the waistline, fastening with a buckle at the front. The belt is backed with soft fawn leather and the statement buckle is gold tone metal embellished with multicoloured prong set gemstones. There are concealed pockets front of each hip. This beautiful piece is in excellent condition and is deceptively accommodating. We recommend it would best suit a US size 8, UK size 12-14, although it could be cinched in at the waist to suit a smaller figure.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.
