PRODUCT DETAILS
This two piece 1950s cotton skirt set by Teddy Tinling is playful and unorthodox alluding to tropicana and utility wear with pleasing results. The designer Teddy Tinling was an English tennis player, spy and author as well as a popular designer for almost all of the great female tennis players throughout the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Wimbledon ladies' champions such as Billie Jean King, Rosemary Casals, Evonne Goolagong ,Virginia Wade , Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova frequently wore his designs. The designer's eclectic personality is clearly reflected in this charming set, which is notably host to an exotic novelty fish print in blue and yellow shades over a soft brown backdrop. Flashes of marine blue trim appear on the cuffs and pockets to accentuate the print. The loosely tailored, front buttoning shirt with its short capped sleeves and slanted forwards facing pockets possesses an air of practical formality that contrasts with the aquatic theme. The ankle length skirt is gathered below a tidy waistline with inward folding pleats graduating towards the central zip fastening at the reverse. The front features slightly elevated pockets on either side which are reminiscent of apron pockets. This wonderful set is in lovely vintage condition, perhaps with a little fade but not any notable flaws. The shirt is loose fitting with subtle tailoring and will accommodate a range of sizes as a separate, however the skirt has a petite waistband and in view of this we have recommended US size 2-4, UK 6-8.
