1920s Navy and Khaki Flapper Coat with Soutache Work
This wonderfully made original 1920s flapper coat is crafted from smooth navy and khaki wool. It is tailored to a cocooning shape with an asymmetric fastening, wide sleeves and a high neckline. The detail across this jacket is beautiful, the khaki wool around the bottom hem, collar and along the bottom half of the sleeves is detailed with elaborate tonal ribbon work. These khaki areas have beautiful irregular, swirling hems where they meet the navy wool. The coat fastens along the left side of the front with two large patterned plastic buttons through fabric loops. It is also secured at the collar with a hidden snap closure. Inside, the coat is lined with two stunning silks, one in pale cream at the top and, below this, a beautiful black silk detailed with pink, red and white florals. The lining looks to be a carefully sewn-in replacement and peeking underneath, I can see the last remnants of the original blue lining which likely shattered due to age.
The coat is in truly excellent vintage condition with no issues. It is very well made, well preserved and robust and wearable by a wide variety of sizes. No labels remain in the garment and the fabric has no stretch so please check the measurements below. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 31" (80cm), Waist 25" (64cm), Hips: 34" (87cm), Height: 5' 4" (164cm) and she's a size UK 6, US 2. There was plenty of room to spare and we've all tried this on at team Circa - it looks good on all sizes up to a UK 14, US 10.
