1970s Mary Farrin Four Piece Knitted Skirt Suit
This top, skirt, jacket and scarf ensemble was designed by London label Mary Farrin in the 1970s. Mary Farrin was known as the Queen of the Knits, even supplying Angora knits to Christian Dior and she opened her first boutique in fashionable South Molton Street, London in the late 1960s. This four-part look was made in Malta. The fabric is a weighty stretch-knit woven with wool in a pale lilac-grey with contrasting copper-brown stripes. It has a chunky, ribbed finish with semi-sheer, peekaboo stitching in copper between the thick lilac-grey ribbing. The skirt is cut to a high-waist fit with a straight-cut, pleated silhouette that falls to below the knee. The top is short-sleeved with a fitted silhouette and V-neckline. The relaxed, loose jacket is detailed with gathered pleats at the shoulder which gives way to soft pleats that fall the length of the front. The long-line scarf is tailored from coordinating cloth.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws to the knit. Due to its age, it has no composition or size labels and the fabric has some stretch on the below measurements. It should suit sizes up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8.
